Explore Our Program
-
We believe transformation happens in relationship with a community of others. That’s why we create consistent, welcoming spaces where participants feel known, valued and never alone. Through small meet-up groups and monthly community gatherings, young people share meals, stories, laughter and real-life conversations. Over time, these shared experiences build trust and lasting friendships.
Each participant is also paired with a dedicated mentor: a steady, compassionate adult who shows up, listens well, and walks alongside them. This consistent presence creates more than guidance. It creates belonging. Our participants don’t just join a program, they become part of a community that celebrates them, supports them, and stays committed to their growth.
-
We are committed to creating an environment where every participant feels emotionally and physically safe. All mentors and volunteers undergo thorough screening, including background checks, thorough interviews, reference reviews. Mentors are carefully selected for their character and alignment with our mission. Our mentors are trained in trauma-informed care, equipping them to respond with patience, sensitivity, and awareness. They understand how past experiences can shape behavior and trust and they approach each relationship with compassion, consistency, and respect.
Confidentiality and integrity are foundational to the trust we build. All staff, mentors, and volunteers sign formal confidentiality agreements and are trained in ethical standards to ensure participants’ personal information and stories are protected. We operate with transparency, clear policies, and accountability in every aspect of our work, creating a safe, trustworthy foundation where growth and independence can truly blossom.
-
We thoughtfully match each participant with a compassionate, consistent adult who is committed to showing up - not just once, but over time. These mentors are more than advisors: they are steady, reliable presences who listen well, encourage growth, and build trust through consistency. We carefully consider personality, interests, and individual needs to create meaningful, aligned mentor relationships.
Our mentors provide both guidance and accountability. They help participants set realistic goals, navigate challenges, and take practical steps toward independence. With encouragement and honest feedback, mentors challenge participants to follow through, take ownership, and grow in confidence. This balance of support and accountability fosters resilience, responsibility, and lasting personal development.
-
We work alongside each participant to build clear short and long-term plans centered on measurable progress. Through regular meetings with a consistent mentor and accountability partner, participants are invited to dream about their futures - exploring education, career paths, travel, relationships and the kind of life they want to build. We help translate those dreams into practical, achievable goals with tangible next steps.
Accountability is a core part of our model. We hold participants responsible for doing the footwork required to move forward, while offering guidance, encouragement, and honest feedback along the way. This steady rhythm of dreaming, planning, acting, and reflecting helps participants develop confidence, discipline, and ownership over their future.
-
We equip participants with practical, real-world skills that build independence and resilience. From managing finances, and understanding credit, to cooking nutritious meals, mending clothes, changing tires and maintaining a living space. We focus on the everyday competencies that create stability. These hands-on lessons are designed to build confidence and resourcefulness.
In addition, we educate participants on how to access and navigate government benefits, community programs, and nonprofit resources available to them. Rather than doing everything for them, we teach them how to advocate for themselves, ask the right questions, and effectively utilize the support systems around them. Our goal is empowerment - not dependence.
-
We employ a “hand up” model that requires ownership, effort, and growth, never enabling, always equipping.
-
We prepare participants for a structured, global adventure designed to stretch comfort zones, expand perspective and build lasting confidence. Prior to travel, participants engage in intentional goal setting for their arrival back home, learning cultural awareness, and developing the practical skills needed to navigate new environments responsibly.
The adventure itself is powerful, but we believe the true “next adventure” begins upon returning home. Re-entry is where growth is tested and strengthened. We walk closely with participants as they integrate what they’ve learned into daily life - applying new confidence, perspective, and discipline to their goals. Travel becomes a catalyst, not an escape, a launching point for deeper independence and purpose.
-
We recognize everyone’s growth happens at different speeds. Not every young person aging out of foster care will be ready, willing and able to meet the requirements of our program. If this is the case, we will re-contact them later to revisit service once they are ready.
